Announcing the largest arcade in the UK

We would like to clarify that as of May 2015, Retro Games Party no longer has any involvement with any organisation or individuals detailed below, this post is for historical purposes only.

On Saturday 22nd February 2014 at RGP 6.0 opening party, we made a big announcement to the attendees, watch the video below for the full information.

For almost a year now, a plan has been in development to sustain the Retro Games Parties for the future.  An idea started in a fairly random conversation in March 2013 led to the announcement in the video above.

In March 2013 we had our original “lair” which could hold about 40 games but was thought to be unsustainable long term.  We expanded in June 2013 to take on an extra 1,400 square feet to allow us upto 60 games and pinballs etc.

Our opening party for the expanded space was a huge success but success can also be your failure as we found pretty quickly as more event organisers began to talk to us about the 2014 season.

We knew that we were almost at our limit which could put us in a position where public events might not be possible due to the lengthy loading and unloading time of our current premises.

At length the future was discussed and was decided that we should obtain more permanent and suitable premises with a view to future expansion.

Retro Games Party become stronger by forming an alliance with another local collector who already had a growing collection and the same ideas as us – to collect, maintain, restore games we treasure for us to play ourselves, allow others to access and to be a source for organisers to use for larger public events.

This had to be a tightly controlled secret for several months – mostly because of the negativity towards any arcade venture we have witnessed in the past – to avoid this potential negativity was to keep us focused on our goal.

We have a sustainable growth plan which is financially viable with multiple avenues for income and exposure.  Our goal is not to become rich but to have a place to house our collections and have it become financially independent.

In the video above you’ll see the full announcement made at RGP6.0 – this is set to be the largest arcade in the UK for classic games.

At 22:00 GMT on 25/02/2014 we held a public Q&A – you can see the full video with the questions here
